I am going to be hopping around your lily pad quite a bit! This really speaks to my own inner growth journey, even though our backgrounds are very different. Eager to read more of your musings!

Hi Louisa! I found your stack through the Writers Hour comments - I’m fairly new to Substack with no preexisting following to rely on :) Wishing you growth in your connections here, and I hope you’ll also visit me at Moments, where I share photography and stories about moments of connection in nature and everyday life :)

Hi Louisa, I just found your Substack and it speaks to me very much. I have also moved multiple times in my life and speak several languages so I walk around with a very fragmented sense of identity. I'm a linguist and I write about learning new languages, which is something I've always loved doing, but I can't avoid also always coming back to the topic of cultural / linguistic identity.

Hi Tanya, I'm so glad to connect with you on Substack! I just subscribed to your very interesting newsletter. I'm passionate about languages and learning new ones, so your adventurous spirit in exploring language frontiers speaks to me! I think language, culture and our sense of identity are intimately intertwined. For those of us who don't have a certain "continuity" in our linguistic and cultural upbringing, we may indeed feel a sense of fragmentation looking inward. I have had long periods of time when I just wanted to forget about my native languages and excel in my adopted languages and cultures so I could assimilate and be accepted. Now that I'm older, I have come full circle and started to appreciate the culture and languages I grew up with. This appreciation is helping me to connect to my younger self--a very important aspect of emotional healing. I look forward to contiuing this discourse with you in the future.

It's fascinating to me, the very unique journey that each of us goes through with our linguistic and cultural identities. So glad I found you! Substack is cool that way. And thank you for subscribing to mine!

Hi Louisa, I'm so grateful to have found your Substack via your Note showing up in my feed. Though I'm a 2nd generation Korean-Canadian, much of what you shared is so similar to my experience. Your writing is beautiful. My sadness embraces your sadness. I'm excited to read more of what you share.

Hi Sharon, welcome to Lily Pond! I'm so glad that my Note has led you here. Thanks for your introduction. When sharing my lived experience as an immigrant daughter, I was hoping to connect with others who have similar experiences, so we can support one another through mutual witnessing. I'm glad that you find resonance in my writing. Look forward to getting to know more about you and your experience as a 2nd generation Korean-Canadian.
