Newly arrived in British Hong Kong, our family of four lived in a tiny one-bedroom apartment in one of these high risers shown in the background of this photo. Apparently, red was an “allowed” color in the free society of Hong Kong, and my mother immediately dressed me with a red coat, reminiscent of Pat Nixon’s infamous red coat.
