The word “fish” (魚)in Chinese is a homonym of “leftover” (餘). Because the fish symbolizes “surplus,” Chinese people like to use its image in Lunar New Year decorations as well as eat a whole fish, with head and tail, at New Year’s eve dinner—and leave some for the New Year’s day.
I don’t know about you, but I certainly could use some “surplus” in my life, both financially and emotionally!
Here’s a koi fish I painted yesterday. May it bring luck to you and me.
I love this! Sending luck abundance and blessings your way x
Thank you for sharing this. I had no idea. Lots of Luck to you and your family in this new year!
